How We Help

An ADHD Assessment provides a thorough evaluation of your child’s attention, behaviour, and executive functioning. This differential diagnostic assessment is designed to identify whether your child meets the criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or other conditions and to offer valuable insights into their behavioural and emotional functioning. The assessment is suitable for children aged 4 to 18 years and can also help identify co-existing conditions such as anxiety, learning difficulties, or emotional regulation challenges.

What’s Involved

  • Parent Interview (1 hour): A discussion about your child’s developmental, educational history, and current concerns.
  • Cognitive and Executive Functioning Assessment (2 hours): A standardised test to evaluate attention, memory, problem-solving, and cognitive abilities.
  • Behavioural Questionnaires: Completed by parents and teachers to assess your child’s attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.
  • Optional Educational Setting Observation (1 hour + travel): Observation of your child in their childcare, kindergarten, or school setting.
  • Optional Academic Assessment (2 hours): Conducted if there are signs of learning challenges, to assess academic skills.
  • Feedback Session (1 hour): A thorough review of the assessment results, diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations for managing symptoms at home and school.
  • Comprehensive Report: A detailed report summarising the findings and providing tailored strategies for supporting your child’s development.

Duration

The full assessment typically takes 4-8 sessions.

Rebates

Medicare does not cover ADHD assessments. However, if your child is diagnosed with ADHD, a Mental Health Care Plan can be used for treatment. Check with your private health provider to see if you are eligible for any rebates.
