How we help
Challenging behaviours can be a regular part of development and testing boundaries as children grow. They communicate an underlying challenge for your child. Identifying the factors contributing to the behaviour and addressing these can often improve the challenging behaviour.
A full assessment can be beneficial when the behaviour has a persistent and significant detrimental impact on the child’s functioning. The evaluation can help determine the underlying function of the behaviour and the factors that may maintain it.
Positive behaviour supports are then put in place to assist in the development of more functional behaviours. This behavioural assessment package can be invaluable in managing challenging behaviours in the context of Autism, ADHD, Developmental Delay or other learning and developmental difficulties.
What’s Involved
- Parent Interview (1 hour): A comprehensive discussion about your child’s developmental history and presenting concerns.
- Observation (2 – 6 hours): Monitoring your child in home and educational settings to gather contextual information.
- Teacher Meetings (2 hours): Engaging with your child’s teachers to gain insights into their behavior in the classroom.
- Behavior Monitoring (2 hours): Collection and analysis of behavior records from parents and teachers.
- Positive Behavior Support Plan: A comprehensive report outlining positive behavior support strategies and recommendations.
- Feedback Session (1 hour): A meeting to discuss findings and recommendations.
Duration
The assessment process typically takes 10-12 hours, providing a thorough understanding of your child’s behavior patterns over time and in various contexts. The report is then charged on an hourly rate as the length of the reports vary depending on the needs of the child.
Rebates
Medicare rebates may be available for behavioral assessments conducted as part of a Mental Health Care Plan recommended by your child’s GP or Paediatrician. However, assessment reports do not attract a Medicare rebate. Additionally, check with your private health provider to see if you are eligible for any rebates.
